Options backtests estimate the premium with a simplified model — intrinsic value plus a time-value term at a fixed 16% assumed volatility — rather than real historical option premiums, and carry lower accuracy than equity or futures backtests. The estimate is least reliable on event days and in high-volatility markets, because the volatility assumption does not move.
